In a world where eCommerce has become the natural medium for purchasing everything from coffee beans to multi-million dollar products, understanding exports is a necessity. Whether you are a buyer from another country, or a local buyer interested in exporting your vehicle, Southlake Motorcars can help.
When shipping vehicles internationally by sea, there are a few choices that can be made to custom tailor your delivery process.
Initially, your vehicle will be picked up on location at Southlake Motorcars in Dallas, TX, by either an open or enclosed carrier based on your preference and budget. The vehicle will then be transported to a container loading facility within the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex (more commonly known as a “container stuffing service company”). There they will properly load and strap your vehicle down into the cargo container in preparation for transport.
Once loaded and properly secured into the container, the vehicle is then photographed at every angle. To conclude the load-up process, a container shipment semi-truck will load the container and transport it to the port of origin that is most logistically convenient for export to its final destination.
At port, a “Bill of Landing” is issued and the container awaits loading onto a cargo ship, where your vehicle will be transported across international waters to the final port of destination.
Upon arrival at the port of destination, you will be required to provide the Bill of Landing along with other documentation (depending on the port of destination) to retrieve your vehicle from port.
When selecting air freight as the mode of transport for export, the process is nearly identical with the exception of the load-in process.
When using an aircraft to transport a vehicle, it must first be loaded onto a crate or vehicle specific slab that can be lifted via crane or forklift into the aircraft. This process is usually handled onsite near the aircraft to minimize the possibility of damage.
There is also the option of utilizing the Roll On/Roll Off (RoRo) process. If selected, the RoRo option requires that the vehicle have less than ½ tank of fuel, and no other belongings inside the vehicle. The vehicle must also be a fully functioning vehicle that will start, drive up (roll on), and then start up again to drive off (roll off).
